The Craft Center features six pottery wheels for instruction and practice in the art of wheel-thrown pottery.  Potters in the Center make bowls, plates, vases, etc. using our materials and supplies.

The Craft Center sells a variety of clay bodies to meet the skill level of beginning and advanced potters.  We sell smooth and rough bodied clays in various colors.  Contact the Craft Center to get information on in-stock clays.  25-pound bags cost $15.  Purchasing a bag of clay provides potters access to our clay extruder, giffin grip, tools, supplies and a wide selection of glazes.

Once a term, the Craft Center sponsers a Raku Firing Night.  Pottery pieces glazed in special Raku glazes are heated to 1800 degrees in about an hour in a gas-powered kiln.  Then the kiln is opened and the pots are removed and placed in a trash can filled with leaves, newspaper, or other material. This causes a brief flaring of flames, which are put out by covering the trash cans.  This removes all of the oxygen from the area and better glaze reductions can be achieved.  This results in some fascinating glaze colors and textures and a crackle feature on the exterior of the pieces.
